My wife and I have had the extreme fortune and pleasure of being patients of Dr. D's since 2001. Back then, I was mid-way through a horrible crown project with another dentist and Poriya bravely agreed to finish it. I am not a dentist but it stands to reason assuming responsibility for someone else's questionable work is a rare gesture. That crown, and any other work DR. D has done for me has been flawless and withstood the test of time.

Of all the doctors I have seen, Dr. D is the only one whose office tells me in advance exactly what my out of pocket expense will be for any given procedure. Back when I was a starving student he went above and beyond the call of duty accommodating my "delicate" financial circumstances. The cost has never been out of step with other doctors. If you have crappy insurance and have to pay more out of pocket, get a better plan and don't blame the doctor. Blame the real culprit, the insurance company.

Bottom line, if you have lousy insurance, don't care about the quality of your dental work, are not interested in having a good relationship with your doctor or are foolish enough to believe that just because you are relatively young you couldn't possibly need a crown; I suggest you go to a dental school. If, however, you appreciate the value of having excellent work done by a doctor you are comfortable with, who has an office that is professional and thoughtful, I highly recommend Dr. Dokhanchi.

One of the most difficult things about moving to a new city is having to find new doctors with whom you undoubtedly will have to share all of the intimate details about your health and social *ahem* extracurricular activities with.

I've been seeing Dr. Dokhanchi for 3+ years now and I've been extremely impressed by him. Not only is Dr. Dokhanchi very good at what he does, but he also takes the time to explain dentist-speak in an understandable manner to someone who may not have been pre-med in college. His staff is friendly, the office is spotless and each dentist chair is equipped with a TV for your viewing pleasure.

Rarely do I feel like my doctors care about me, but Dr. Dokhanchi geniunely cares about his patients. What confirmed it for me was when I received a letter in the mail from him wishing his patients a happy holiday season and also reminding them to get their teeth cleaned before the end of the year. The letter went on to say that he noticed several of his patients are overdue for cleanings, which may be because as people became unemployed, they've also lost their dental insurance. He noted that 2009 was a difficult year for many so that's why he was offering FREE CLEANINGS to those in need. I was really touched by this kind gesture as I've never had a doctor offer his time for free!

I think it's sufficient to say that Dr. Dokhanchi is a true professional and a kind person. I will continue to see him for as long as I live in the Bay Area.

Dr. Dokanchi is my dentist and I recommend him to everyone. He is very thorough and gentle. He is a great listener and schedules appointments very carefully so that you can get a lot of 1:1 time with him. He seems fairly young and he is a genuinely nice man.

His office is on Union Street so I schedule my appointments at a time when I can also do some shopping. :) I think he even takes some appointments on Saturdays too. His office is very nice- light leather seats, flat screen tvs, views of North Beach. Can't beat this place.

Very importantly, he and his staff are friendly. You can tell that they actually all like working together- very harmonious.

I would say that it is actually [gasp] an **enjoyable** experience! I have been going to Dr. D for about 7 years now and I would dream of going to anyone else. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Dokhanchi is the best dentist on the planet!!!

He's expensive, but worth every penny. Quality comes with a price. He has performed all my necessary bi-annual cleanings, cavity fillings, crowns & so forth. Yup, that's the price I pay for my strong sweet tooth.

His office is top notch because:
1. He explains thoroughly every procedure thoroughly.

2. You can watch TV or read gossip magazines while you're waiting.

3. Saturday appointments are available.

4. He's extremely punctual with the appointments.

5. Their staff are very efficient & friendly.

Dr. D is a fantastic dentist, even though admittedly I am in general not a fan of going to the dentist.

When you walk into his office, you can immediately tell that this place is well kept -- hi tech (tv's at each dental chair), clean, good magazines, etc. Monica, the receptionist is fantastic. She is so nice, and can always effectively deal with the annoying insurance people so you never have to.

Dr. D is very good at what he does: he pays attention to your dental needs, gives great advice and doesn't try to sell you things you don't need like many other dentists do.

Plus, it is open on Saturdays, doesn't take forever to get an appointment and is right on Union Street.

I hate, hate, hate dentists. I just don't understand why anyone would do it. They're mean people. With sharp, mideival torture tools.

But then there's Dr. Dokhanchi. He's gentle. He's not stingy with the drugs. And he let's you watch TV.

Maybe now I'll go every year.

I picked Dr. Dokhanchi because I read great reviews on Yelp. I haven't been disappointed. I HATE waiting for an extra hour at larger dentist offices because they have too many patients and not enough staff. Not the case here! They don't double-book so you know when you go in, you'll be taken care of. San Francisco

Wow, I never knew I could like a dentist as much as I liked Dr. Dokhanchi. He and his staff were amazing. I'm even tempted to go back even though I live in Oakland.

I can't say enough about his treatment. There is a tv at the chair where you can see your teeth as he scans a camera around your mouth and explains everything he sees. I felt like I learned so much about my teeth and taking care of them. His assistant was also super helpful and educational. They were great about working with my insurance also, making it as painless as possible.

I had to get a lot of work done and I really appreciated his thinking through all the options and possibilities. I also felt like he had a holistic view of me as a patient. Once I came in after my cat had scratched my eye and as he was examining me in the chair, he noticed the scratch. He asked me more about it and pulled out his medical book to see if it was more serious. What dentist does that?!

I've had yrs of braces and counted many an hour in a dentist chair. I have no strong phobias or dislike of dentists but I found myself finally really liking going to the dentist with his staff.

Highly highly recommend him. Dr. Dokhanchi, when are you going to open an East Bay office??

My review ... "Dr. Dokhanchi is our family dentist and we feel very fortunate to have found his practice. His office is new but we've been seeing him a long time - he previously worked with our old dentist (who's retired now). Our daughters are really comfortable with him as well - who needs laughing gas when you can flip on the boob tube!" ...is still true.

I don't know what to make of the one star reviews, but I take them to be unfortunate misunderstandings. Dokhanchi's office has been nothing but good to us for years.

I have been going to Dr Dokhanchi for nearly 7 years now, and I highly recommend him to anyone. His staff is friendly and professional. He himself is not only great at his job but also great at communicating to patients the procedures that he recommends and why. If you want to make sure that you have great teeth when you turn 100 years old, go to Dr Dokhanchi. San Francisco

I almost didn't write this review because I don't want people to go to Dr. Dokhanchi - I like booking Saturday appointments only 1-2 weeks in advance. But I have to 5-star Dr. Dokhanchi, Monica, and the hygenists whose names I wish I could remember although they always remember mine.

I can see how you might think this office upsells (i.e. I came in for a cleaning and got nice new fillings and a nightguard), but I think it's much better here than at other dentists. And it's hard to complain when the visits are always quick and cosy.

Also A+ for letting me keep the plaster cast of my teeth. I got to creep out my boyfriend for a whole day.

Big shout out to Doctor "D" and his crew... I switched over to the good doctor based on the reccomendation of a friend, and because I was unhappy with CitiDent because I felt like they were more interested in my money then my tooth care and kept pushing me towards multi-thousand dollar treatments.

Dr Dokanchi and his team put me at ease by really going in depth into my teeth, my history, and my future....and by offering extremely valuable (and low cost) treatments and advice... Courteous staff and great organization.

My teeth never felt better!

Dr. Dokhanchi has been my primary dentist for over seven years and I couldn't be happier. He is very professional, thorough and knowledgeable. Not only he assures healthy teeth for me, he manages to always put a smile on my face with his sense of humor!!!

His practice on Union street is staffed with talented and personable individuals which makes my overall experiences pleasant . I highly recommend him for all your dental health care.

I hate dentists but Dr. Dokhanchi was really nice even as he scolded me for not going to the dentist in years and years. His office is comfortable and the exam rooms have great views of the bay. Most importantly, he does not double book so he'll never be going back and forth between you and another patient. He actually reads your chart and takes the time to explain what is going on with your teeth. His dental assistant and admin assistant are also awesome. Recommended! San Francisco

The first dentist I've really had a lot of confidence in. My dad owned a candy/soda business when I was a teenager so my dentist has become like my wartime consigliere as it relates to my entourage. Dr. D is clearly an expert, totally confident and an exceptional talent. This is the guy who might be able to save you if you ever get curbed and someone I trust implicitly when it comes to diagnosis. It is his diligence in taking every little step seriously, taking the time to explain everything that I ask and his intent focus when it's time for him to go to work. Highly recommend! San Francisco

I love Dr. Dokhanchi! He is personable and professional. The office is modern and clean. The staff are friendly and quick. I have never been to a dentist office where I have not had to wait for the dentist. This is the first office that they only take one or two patience at a time therefore you are never waiting on the dentist. I highly recommend Dr. D! San Francisco

I've been coming to see Dr. Dokhanchi for a couple years now, and I'm happy to report that I'm confident in my smile and the great service I've gotten here. The staff is super friendly, and Dr. Dokhanchi himself takes the time to get to know you and have nice chats while working on your teeth. So far I've had general cleanings, one deep cleaning, and a crown done here, and I've been very happy with the service. I plan to keep coming here as long as I live in the neighborhood (great location, right on Union St!). San Francisco

I've been to a lot of dentists in my lifetime and Dr. D is by far the most professional and competent one I've ever met. As a nurse, he really listened to my concerns and made sure that my dental work was as comfortable as possible. He really worked with me to have the best experience possible. Thanks Dr. D!!! I H-A-T-E the dentist. Now I know that everyone says that, but I really really hate the dentist. I've had, oh, at least 5 root canals. I've lost track. I'm not a crier but I have been known to cry at the dentist. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Dokhanchi and I think he's great.

A tooth was bothering me, and I called up and they saw me in a half hour. And I was a new patient at that time but they still went out of their way to see me immediately. I've been twice now and Dr. Dokhanchi has been so nice and really takes the time to explain things. His dental assistant and administrator are always very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this practice.

A good dentist and worth every penny. I hadn't been to the dentist in an embarrassingly long time, but he didn't give me any crap about it. Just took some x-rays, physically showed me what I needed, and then went to work. Fast, efficient, didn't hurt that much. Few of us like going to the dentist, but Dr. Dokhanchi and his team make it as painless as possible. You should go. San Francisco

I have been going to Dr. D for the past 4 years. They are very efficient and thorough in their cleaning and procedures. I will say first and foremost they believe in PREVENTATIVE dentistry. This basically means they are proactive in fixing issues that may appear small now but could lead to bigger issues later. So it can get a bit more pricey b/c they may fill something small now rather than wait until it becomes a bigger problem. That being said I would rather fill a very small cavity now than pay for a crown or root canal later. They have always been upfront and straightforward with me and I have to say they have kept my teeth in excellent condition since I have been going to them. San Francisco

After being told by another dentist (read my other review) that I had several cavities that needed filling, I got a second opinion by the staff at Dr. D's office. It turned out I had ZERO cavities, c'est la vie. Well, needless to say, I've stuck with Dr. D and my dentist experience(s) have thus far been pleasant , or as pleasant as any dentist experience could be. Every procedure is explained in detail and the staff are friendly but not overkill friendly, which is nice. They work well with my Delta Dental plan and tell me upfront accurate $ estimates. The place is on Union St. so non-metered parking is sparse. The on sight parking garage is $10+ for 1 hour of parking, which is the only real down side. Nice Job. San Francisco
